Overview
West End Buddhist Temple and Meditation Centre is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Religion Worker (Voluntary Monastic Services) to support the spiritual, educational, and community outreach activities of the Temple. The successful candidate will assist with religious education programs, worship services, meditation programs, and community engagement initiatives.
Responsibilities / Tasks
- Provide spiritual guidance and support to members of the Temple and the community
- Assist in organizing and conducting worship services, prayer meetings, meditation sessions, and religious ceremonies
- Deliver religious education and faith-based instruction to children, youth, and adults
- Coordinate outreach and community support programs
- Visit individuals and families requiring spiritual care and encouragement
- Assist with charitable and volunteer activities sponsored by the organization
- Prepare educational materials and program content for religious instruction
- Support cultural and community events organized by the organization
- Maintain records related to programs and participation activities
- Promote Buddhist teachings, meditation practices, and spiritual wellness activities
- Assist senior monastic members with daily religious and ceremonial activities
- Interpret and explain Buddhist scriptures and teachings in Pali and Sinhala where required
Employment requirements
- Completion of secondary school is required
- Postsecondary education in theology, religious studies, pastoral ministry, Buddhist studies, or a related field is an asset
- Previous experience in ministry, monastic services, religious education, faith-based community work, or spiritual care is preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and religious holidays as required
- Knowledge of multicultural and diverse community environments is an asset
- Knowledge of Buddhist traditions, meditation practices, and temple activities is preferred
- Knowledge of Pali and Sinhala is mandatory
